When and how can we enroll for the open stage?

Enrollments for the open stage start every year on the first of May. Performances are bases on the "first come, first served" principle . Unfortunately we cannot accept enrollments before this date, nor can we give priority to certain schools (even if you visit the festival every year, you are NOT automatically enrolled for the next edition). This seems most fair to us! If you cannot contact us on May 1st for any reason, of course you can have your enrollment sent in through somebody else (for example a friend sends an e-mail for the both of you). The fee for dancers also counts as your entrance fee and is 4€/person. You only have to pay this fee once, even if you are dancing multiple times.

You can enroll for the open stage by sending an e-mail to info@belly2belly-festival.be. Please don't send your enrollments through other mail adresses or facebook, so we don't loose the overview of who entered first!

In your mail, please mention the following details:

  • your real name
  • your stage name or the name of the school/troupe you are dancing with
  • what you are dancing (solo/duo/group), you can decide on the style of your dance in a later stage
  • what time you would prefer to perform (we do our best to try and accomodate everyone's wishes, but it's not always possible)

We try to answer all e-mails within 2 working days.

Some guidelines for our program, to give as many dancers as possible the chance to perform:

  • max. 5 min. for each performance spot
  • initially 1 spot per dancer. If you would like to perform 2 solo's, we will initially put 1 dance on the waiting list. After the first round of enrollments for the open stage, we will contact you if there is room for an extra solo dance!
  • your spot is confirmed only after we have received your entrance fee. Performance spots that haven't been confirmed/paid by 01.07.2017 will be opened up again for the next person on the waiting list!

If all performance slots are taken when you enroll, we will put your name on a waiting list.
Please don't be discouraged if you end up on the waiting list! In our experience, there are a lot of changes in the program every year in the weeks/days prior to the festival (dancers canceling, ... ), sometimes even very last minute!

How long can I perform?

Because we would like to give the opportunity to perform to as many dancers as possible, there is a time limit of maximum 5 min. per performance slot. If course you can also do a shorter performance :-) If you would like to bring 2 different styles, it is also possible to divide your performance slot into 2 slots of 2,5 min. each! Please let us know well in advance if you need time to change costumes.

Can I do several dances?

Of course! However, because we want to give the opportunity to perform to as many dancers and schools as possible, we woulde like to ask that each soloist/duet/group takes only 1 performance spot initiatlly. After the first round of enrollments, we can see if it's possible to give you more performance time!

What time do I have to be there/Can I perform between ... and ... ?

Performance spots are grouped in blocks of 1 hour. We cannot give you an exact performance time. If you would like to perform between certain hours, please mention this with your enrollment and we will try our best to accomodate your wishes. Once the performers list is complete, there is not much room left for moving spots around, so please don't wait too long to ask for certain things!

Nobody likes to perform for an empty room! This is why we would like to encourage performers to arrive and be ready BEFORE your performance block starts (especially if you are in the first or last block). Support your fellow dancers and encourage each other!

How big is the stage?

The stage has a free dancing area of 8 metres wide and 6 meters deep. It's not possible to dance in front of the stage, as there are chairs for the audience. You can enter the stage on one side only: stage left.

Can I spread out flyers on the festival?

Is videotaping/taking pictures allowed?

You are allowed to videotape and take pictures for your own personal use. Please consider the fact that it is not allowed to publish pictures or videos from other dancers/dance schools without their consent!

We have been lucky in the previous years with the presence of some very good hobby photographers, with gorgeous pictures as a result. (keep an eye on our facebook page, where we will post all pictures we come across!).

This year there will be no professional video of the performances, so you are allowed to make your own videos.
